Systematics Montes Montiel, José Rubén [1], Sebastian Gernandt, David [2]. Phylogenetic analyses of Pinus subsect. Cembroides Engelm. from multi-locus data. Pinus subsection Cembroides Engelm. comprises the pinyon pines from North America with ca. 14 species distributed in arid or semi-arid environments from the southwestern United States to south central Mexico. The pinyon pines are of great biological, ecological, biogeographic, and economic importance, and more than half of the taxa are listed as protected by the Mexican government. Despite the phylogenetic studies that have been carried out on subsect. Cembroides, we still lack a robust phylogenetic hypothesis and clear delimitation for the closely related species within the subsection. This is due to suspected phylogenetic incongruence resulting from several biological phenomena like incomplete lineage sorting and reticulation. We applied a multi-locus approach to resolve relationships within subsection Cembroides using the HybSeq method, which includes target enrichment of low copy nuclear DNA and genome skimming of high copy DNA. We analyzed 25 single copy nuclear genes from 59 samples representing all taxa from subsection Cembroides and 5 outgroups corresponding to subsections Balfourianae, Nelsoniae, Gerardianae and Krempfianae. For the analysis of the sequences we used the Hyb-Piper platform designed for data from Hyb-Seq. We performed concatenated and multispecies coalescent analyses on the dataset to infer phylogenetic relationships. Log in to add this item to your schedule
