Systematics Drews, Nicholas [1], Hanes, Margaret Mae [2]. Exploring diversification in /Megistohibiscus (Malvaceae) on Madagascar with RADseq data. Madagascar is home to 86 species in the Hibiscus tribe (Malvaceae), 75% of which are endemic to the island. A plastid phylogeny strongly supports an exclusively Malagasy clade (/Megistohibiscus) that originated from an introduction in the Mid-Miocene. /Megistohibiscus comprises 38 morphogically diverse species in five genera, three of which are endemic. Our aim is to reconstruct a well-resolved phylogeny for most species in this young group with sequences obtained with RADSeq methodologies. The resulting phylogeny will guide taxonomic work throughout the clade and particularly in Perrierophytum, Kosteletzkya and Hibiscus. Ultimately the tree will be used to help uncover the major evolutionary processes responsible for diversification in /Megistohibiscus. Log in to add this item to your schedule
